The Publish Semantics feature provides a lightweight, efficient way to publish semantic changes in ElastiCubes without requiring a full build. This significantly reduces delays when updating semantic information such as column display names, descriptions, and tags, as well as perspectives, hidden fields, Smart Matching, and fiscal year settings. Data Engineers and Modelers benefit from faster updates to ElastiCube models without waiting for rebuilds. Business Analysts benefit from quicker access to refined metadata for downstream analysis.

Supported Changes

You can publish the following changes without a build:

  • Display names, descriptions, and tags: Update the semantic information for columns.

  • Perspectives: Quickly create and edit perspectives, including adding and removing tables. A build is not required to make perspectives operational.

  • Hidden fields: Hide fields in your data model.

  • Smart Matching: Apply Smart Matching changes.

  • Fiscal year configuration: Configure the fiscal year for your data model.

  1. In the Data tab, make the desired semantic changes (e.g., change display names, descriptions, or tags; hide fields; or edit perspectives).

  2. Click Publish Semantics.

Limitations

  • Relationships, Identity name, and other advanced semantic metadata are not yet included, but are planned for future releases.

  • Handling physical changes: Publish semantics is not available when you have pending build changes (physical changes).

  • Active build conflict: Publish Semantics is not available during an active build process.
